ANKENY - The Marshalltown High School wrestling team surrendered seven forfeits and finished 0-5 at the Ankeny Duals on Saturday.
The Bobcats opened the day with a 74-0 loss at the hands of Class 3A No. 6 Ankeny. MHS followed with losses to Oskaloosa (51-21), 3A No. 11 Sioux City North (61-14), Ottumwa (56-27) and 2A No. 7 Spencer (51-26).
Marshalltown had 13 match victories on the day, led by three pins for 220-pounder Matt Vandegrift. Fifth-ranked heavyweight Pedro Gomez went 4-1 on the day with the lone loss coming as a 3-2 decision to Ankeny's fourth-ranked Xavier Quigley.
Two of Gomez's four wins came by forfeit, another by pin and another major decision. Zach Slocum went 3-2 with a pin, a major decision and a forfeit at 138.
Collecting two wins apiece for MHS were Fernando Martinez (113), Colten Phillips (120), Austin Baker (145) and Agustin Ortiz (152).
Phillips scored a 10-8 decision over Spencer's Bailey Hawn, ranked 10th in 2A. Phillips also scored a pin, while two of his three losses were to ranked 3A wrestlers.

Martinez had a pin and a technical fall, and Baker also had a pin.
The Bobcats close out their dual schedule with Thursday's home meet against Mason City, and the CIML Invitational is Feb. 1 at Southeast Polk.
LE GRAND - The East Marshall/GMG wrestling team rebounded from a 1-2 finish in pool play to take consecutive duals on the back side of the bracket for fifth place at its own Mustang Duals on Saturday.
The Mustangs (11-16) beat Benton Community, 54-19, before falling to eventual tournament champion Independence, 48-24, and then Washington, 38-30, in pool play. EM/GMG then defeated Des Moines Lincoln, 56-16, and West Branch, 45-31, to score the consolation title.
Three Mustangs finished the day with 5-0 records - Zach Underhill at 120 pounds, Talon Roseland at 132 and 2A No. 6-ranked Jay Reisetter at 182.
Reisetter had four pins in a combined 6 minutes, 49 seconds, to lead the way. Underhill had three pins, while Roseland had two wins and a decision.
Seth Webb (106) and Dalton Beadle (160) both went 4-1, with Beadle scoring two pins and two minor decisions. Max Upah (126), Nick Long (138) and Trevor Long (170) each had three victories for the Mustangs.
South Tama scored third place in the tournament, going 2-1 in pool play. The Trojans lost to 2A No. 8 Union, 53-24, but beat Des Moines Lincoln (72-12) and West Branch (47-29) soundly. STC then lost to 2A No. 15 Independence (56-23) in the semifinals before hammering 2A No. 13 Washington, 57-18, in the third-place match.
