A lone pedestrian is shown lower left taking a chilly walk on West Main Street in Marshalltown Monday morning. Central Iowans and much of the North Central United States awoke to bitterly cold conditions as a front bearing frigid temperatures and blustery winds moved through. National weather officials predicted a high of only 5 above and dangerous wind chill values as low as 20 below. The cold weather is expected to continue through late Tuesday night. However, temperatures are expected to climb to 20 Wednesday, as southerly winds will begin the warm up.
