FORT DODGE - So far there's only three teams that have proven capable of beating the Marshalltown boys' bowling squad: Des Moines Lincoln, arch-rival Fort Dodge, and the Bobcats themselves.

Four days after a season-low scoring total led to the first loss of the winter at Des Moines Lincoln, the MHS boys finished with their second-lowest aggregate in a 3,100-3,009 setback against Fort Dodge Monday at Ridgewood Lanes.

The host Dodgers handed Marshalltown (5-2, 1-1) its first CIC Northern Division defeat as well, outscoring the Bobcats by 171 pins during individual play. Fort Dodge (4-3) outlasted MHS in the Baker rounds as the Bobcats had an 80-pin advantage in Round 2.

Senior Aaron Schwandt and sophomore Floyd Speck led Marshalltown as both had a pair of 200 games and the team's only 400 series. Schwandt went 201-215-416 and Speck rolled 209-200-409 to pace the Bobcats, who came up 89 pins shy of their season average.

Grant Whitmore's finishing 224 game led to a 397 set, while Dacoda Ewalt (360) and Brett Wax (359) rounded out the team score for MHS.

Fort Dodge's Chase Messerly rolled 246-226-472 for the high game and series honors on the night. The Dodgers also got a 462 from Drew Hanson and a 449 from Coletyn Nelson.

The Fort Dodge girls rolled to a 2,659-1,913 victory over MHS, led by Ciara Sturm's 418 series and Allison Birnbaum's 413.

Kathleen Ferrin scored a 286 series to lead MHS, followed by Mercedies Bills (270), Samantha Tocheri (267), Tia Vergauwen (245) and Crysa Vergauwen (196).

The Bobcat junior varsity boys dominated Fort Dodge for a 2,752-2,318 triumph. Marshalltown's top score at all levels came from junior Calvin Halvorsen, who bowled 225-223-448.

MHS returns home for its next two duals, hosting Dowling Catholic on Thursday and Mason City on Jan. 29 at Totem Bowl.
