WICHITA, Kan. - The Missouri Valley Conference frontrunners kept the cellar dwellers at arm's reach with relative easy.
Wichita State shot 64 percent from the field in the first half and maintained a lead of at least 15 points the rest of the way, leaving the Drake women's basketball team winless in MVC play after a 70-51 decision on Monday at Charles Koch Arena.
The Shockers (11-6, 5-0) jumped out to a 13-2 lead and pulled in front by as many as 22 points during the first half, going into the break up 44-29.
Kelsey Jacobs matched her career-high with 14 points and Jessica Diamond also had 14 to lead Wichita State. Alex Harden added 11 for the Shockers, who forced 23 Drake turnovers and turned them into 24 points.
Ashley Bartow scored a career-high 13 points to lead Drake (5-12, 0-6), while Kyndal Clark finished with 12 points on 4-of-20 shooting. Clark also had six steals, while Morgan Reid added nine points and seven rebounds.
Drake gets set to start a three-game homestand with Friday's 7:05 p.m. contest against Bradley at the Knapp Center in Des Moines.
