SPORTS SHORTS: Royals pull away from host Regents

WATERLOO - Jake Webb shot 10-of-15 for a game-high 20 points, Brandyn Niemeyer added 19 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and five steals, and Adam Lytle netted a season-best 10 points as the Colo-NESCO boys' basketball team topped Waterloo Christian, 55-45, late Friday night in Iowa Star Conference play.

Waterloo Christian (3-12, 3-10) outscored C-N 17-8 in the third quarter to get within one point, but the Royals (11-7, 9-4) responded with a 21-12 fourth period to pull away for the win.

Danny Hall led the Regents with 14 points and Matt Gillen added 11.

Cougars take down East Marshall girls

ACKLEY - Kristen Zacharias scored a game-high 20 points, Ella Frazier added a season-high 18 and the AGWSR girls' basketball team bounced East Marshall, 54-25, in NICL West Division action late Friday night.

Zacharias made all three of her 3-point attempts while also tallying six rebounds and five steals for the Cougars (10-5, 9-2). Frazer pulled down 11 rebounds, while Madi Fryslie chipped in seven points in AGWSR's fifth straight win.

East Marshall was led by Meriel Leavy's 11 points and season-high 11 rebounds. Ashley Allen added eight points as the pair accounted for 19 of the Mustangs' 25 points. Paige Miller snared six rebounds as well for East Marshall (2-15, 1-10), which suffered its seventh consecutive loss.

The Mustangs play their home finale Friday against South Hardin, while AGWSR is in action tonight at Denver.

Bobcat JV boys topple host Meskwaki

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT - The Marshalltown junior varsity boys' basketball team scored its first win of the season Monday, taking a 67-55 victory over the host Meskwaki Warriors.

Connor Johnson had 29 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bobcats (1-3), while also contributing five assists.

Hunter Chamberlin contributed 11 points, Austin Lovin had nine points and nine steals, and Christian Guido tallied six points and seven rebounds. Kreighton Miller had a team-high six assists.

The MHS JV boys are scheduled to play next Monday at Ames.
