Cora Goodman, 77 of rural Conrad passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. The family will be having a private family funeral. Cora Julia Larson was born on February 13, 1935, in Garden City, Iowa; she was the daughter of Gifford and Helen (Kearney) Larson. Cora attended school in the Eldora School District. On March 27,1951, Cora was united in marriage to John Goodman at the Lutheran Church in Eldora, Iowa, she and John had resided in rural Conrad their entire married lives. Cora was a talented artist, and painted pictures for her family and friends. She enjoyed her gardens and planted hundreds of flowers, which brought the birds she enjoyed watching and feeding. Cora was also an innovative cook, as she had created a cookbook for her family, "Cora's Favorite Recipes"; she also enjoyed playing bridge with her card club. Cora was a member of Dutch Dollies. She was selected to meet Ronald Reagan when he landed at the Des Moines airport; Cora also had the honor of introducing Steve Forbes at a political gathering. Cora had many accomplishments during her lifetime but her proudest moments were being a loving wife, mother, grandmother. Cora was a devoted Christian and a happy and friendly person who enjoyed being with her family and friends, she had great memories of traveling to Ireland with her daughter.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 61 years, John D. Goodman. Children: Judy (Jack) Mully of Coralville; Michael (Terri) Goodman of Conrad. Grandchildren; Matthew Lewis of West Liberty, Iowa; Timothy Lewis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Kent Lewis of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Emily (Warren) Hoelscher of Waukee, Iowa; Sarah (T.J.) Monner of West Des Moines, Iowa and Samuel Goodman of Conrad, Iowa, her sisters; Lois Stewart, Ilo Luce, Bonnie (John) Whalen and Genevieve (Eldon) Veld all of Eldora and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
In death Cora rejoins her parents, Gifford and Helen Larson and her siblings, Dr. Robert Larson and Eljean Harris.
