FAMILY LIFE

Family: Spouse is Doug Butler, employed at Emerson Process Management. We have three wonderful boys; Jacob, Ryan and David. I have two brothers residing in Iowa; Bill, with spouse Josi Greenley in Webster City, and Dan, with wife Nancy Greenley in Norwalk.

Pets: We have two dogs; Mandy, an easy-going yellow Labrador, and Ollie, a lovable, energetic Peekapoo.

Hobbies and interests: Gardening, piano, quilting, sewing, walking and looking for "finds" at the What Cheer Flea Market.

WORK

Occupation: Weight loss counselor at Marshalltown's Lite For Life business.

What that means: I help clients achieve their weight loss goals through weekly counseling and by following the Lite For Life guidelines.

Tenure: I began in April, 2012.

Best part of job: I like helping people feel better about themselves and see them gain confidence as they lose weight. I truly believe the program teaches a healthy way to eat that one can maintain for the rest of one's life. I want others to understand that making healthy choices now can help avoid many health problems later. We can get caught up in bad lifestyle habits and don't realize how good we can feel when we eat healthy and exercise.

FAVORITES

Book: My favorite is "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers. This book shows God's unconditional love for us. I made the mistake of taking this book on a family vacation. My husband became a little irritated with me as I was not able to put it down.

Movies: "Sound of Music," directed by Robert Wise. I'm also a big Harrison Ford fan and like most of his movies.

Food: I like Italian food. To be honest, I like chocolate and ice cream too, but not everyday. I also love to cook and try new recipes. I especially enjoy sharing healthy recipes with clients at work.

COMMUNITY

Best thing about living here: I like the small town "feel" of Marshalltown and how easy it is to get around. Also, one gets to know a lot of people and discover how friendly everyone is. After living in Los Angeles the first two years of our marriage, I realized this and how much I missed the seasons change.

Most influential persons: My parents and grandparents - who were a special part of my life. Also, I admire several, older and wiser women at church.

Local involvement: I'm a member of Marshalltown's First Presbyterian Church and play in the bell choir. I also accompany the church choir on piano and help organize the monthly hymn sing. I'm a member of Marshalltown's Tuesday Musical Club and a sustaining member of the Assistance League.

Advice on life: I like a quote by the Atticus Finch character in "To Kill a Mockingbird," by Harper Lee.

"You never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view - until you climb into their skin and walk around in it." We don't know what other people are going through, we just need to show as much love and understanding as we can.
