February 6, 2013
Times-Republican

The Marshall County Conservation Board and Marshall County Izaak Walton League invite first through fifth grade students and their family members to the 29th year of the award-winning Uncle Ike Nature Program. "Outdoor Adventures" is the 2012-13 theme which will introduce participants to a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. The next session of this year-long series will be from 9 to 11 a.m on Feb. 9 at Grimes Farm & Conservation Center, 2359 233rd St.

During Saturday's session, entitled "Tread Lightly," participants will have the opportunity to experience camping techniques which leave little impact on the environment. They will have the opportunity to discover many camp duties such as setting up a tent, indoors, and learning how to build a camp fire to name a few. Participants should dress for the weather since part of the activities may include a winter hike.

Future programs in the Uncle Ike Nature Program series, include astronomy, canoeing/kayaking and fishing which will meet on the second Saturday of the month at the Grimes Farm unless otherwise noted.

Izaak Walton League membership is not required and there is no charge for the Uncle Ike Nature Program. If anyone would like more information about Uncle Ikes, contact Diane Hall at the Marshall County Conservation Board at 641-752-5490.
