Jack Stelling, 76, passed away January 18, 2013 at the Iowa Veterans Home (IVH) in Marshalltown, Iowa. He lived at the IVH for the past six years where he was given loving attention by the staff and enjoyed the company of his fellow veterans. A memorial service was held January 28 at the IVH with burial in the adjoining IVH cemetery. The Main St. Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown, IA was entrusted with the arrangements.
He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother, Ralph H. Stelling, and nephew Terry Stelling. He is survived by brothers Ed (Diane) of Lake Forest, California and Dwight (Shari) of Des Moines, Iowa, nieces Jennifer Cosgrove and Heather Dorris, and nephews Thom Stelling and Scott Stelling, great nieces and great nephews. Jack was born in Menfro, Missouri September 14, 1936 to Edmund and Leona (nee Newberry) Stelling. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and was confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church where he also attended its Lutheran day school. He graduated from Cleveland High School in St Louis, served in the United States Air Force as a chaplain's assistant, and then worked as a bookkeeper, followed by traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Jack was a caring individual who worked hard to help others lead a better life.
