SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat freshman girls finish off Ames

Four players from Marshalltown reached double-digits in scoring as the Bobcat freshman girls' basketball routed Ames 58-27 on Tuesday at Lenihan.

The Bobcats (10-8) were led by Tabby Steffensen and Rachel Whaley, who both scored 13 points. Ruth Boland added 11 points and Carrie Schmidt contributed 10 points. Courtney Schmidt tacks on six points.

Marshalltown travels to Mason City on Friday.

MHS frosh boys fall to Little Cyclones

The Marshalltown freshman boys' basketball fell 58-49 to Ames on Tuesday at Lenihan.

Sam Rogers led the Bobcats with 13 points. Drake Slifer added on seven points, Trevor Fuccio and Sam Weatherman scored six points apiece and Michael Chavez added five.

The Bobcats (8-10) will be on the road to face Mason City on Friday.
