SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat frosh boys fall to Mohawks

MASON CITY - The Marshalltown freshman boys' basketball team suffered a 54-43 defeat at the hands of Mason City in Friday's Central Iowa Conference Northern Division showdown.

Tony Smith scored 17 points to lead the Bobcats, while Sam Rogers added 12 points and Drake Slifer had seven.

Marshalltown (8-11, 1-5) plays a make-up game Monday against Ankeny at Northview Middle School, starting with the freshmen 'A' game at 4:45 p.m. and the 'B' game at 6:15 p.m.

Mason City staves off MHS sophs

MASON CITY - Three players scored in double figures but the Marshalltown sophomore boys' basketball team fell 72-57 to the Mason City Mohawks Friday night in CIC?Northern Division action.

Hunter Riedl led the Bobcats (2-17, 0-5) with 17 points and Jordan Smith had 16. Fernando Cole added 11 points for MHS, which visits Ankeny Centennial on Monday.
