DISTRICT WRESTLING: EM/GMG’s Reisetter leads 2A qualifiers

HAMPTON - Jay Reisetter earned his second trip to state and led a duo of Mustangs headed for Wells Fargo with an individual title for the East Marshall/GMG wrestling team at the Class 2A District 3 meet Saturday.

Reisetter pinned Clear Lake's Connor Nosbisch and Forest City's Jake Staudt in a combined 4:42 to improve to 38-3 on the year as the Mustangs placed fifth with a score of 41 points.

The seventh-ranked senior will be joined in Des Moines by Zach Underhill (120), who garnered second.

Underhill, ranked ninth, defeated Jake Niichel of Charles City by a 9-4 decision in the wrestleback after falling by a 14-4 major decision to No. 6 Brady Jennings of Osage.

Charles City claimed the team title with 150.5 points, while Osage (109.5), Clear Lake (75) and host Hampton-Dumont (68) also finished ahead of the Mustangs.

South Hardin-BCLUW's Blake Cooper (195) also punched his ticket with a runner-up finish as the Storm grabbed eighth in the field with 25 points. Cooper pinned Osage's Tyler Hurley in 2:19 before losing by fall to Charles City's Luke Johnson in 58 seconds.

The Mustangs' Devon Yilek (152) took third for East Marshall/GMG, while Tyler Lutes (160) followed suit for the Storm.

Yilek was pinned by Forest City's John Lawsen in 5:11 for the wrestleback after splitting his first two matches. Yilek won a 9-7 decision over Osage's Ryan Woods, but was pinned by the Comets' No. 2 ranked Jesse Etherington in 3:33.

Lutes lost a 3-0 decision in the wrestleback to Hampton-Dumont's Grant Lehmann after winning by injury default over Riceville-St. Ansgar's eighth-rated Jordan Nielsen.

Max Upah (126) rounded out the Mustangs' crew with a fourth-place finish.

Luke Asche (138) and Deonce Cushinberry (220) each took fourth for South Hardin-BCLUW.

Ethan Erhardt (113) and Omar Martinez (132) both finished fourth for GRNT-Grundy Center.
