Elizabeth "Liz" Malloy, 87, of Rhodes, died early Monday morning, Feb. 11, 2013, at the State Center Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Born Elizabeth Ann Malechek on Aug. 13, 1925, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Joe and Marie (Charvat) Malechek. She received her education in Rhodes, graduating with the class of 1943. On Sept. 16, 1944, she was united in marriage to Leo Malloy at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. They lived in Rhodes for 10 years then moved east of town onto the family farm, which was a century farm in 1984, and resided there ever since. Mrs. Malloy was a proud farmwife and homemaker. Liz was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. She enjoyed cooking, bowling, being outdoors, attending Little League games, other ballgames, spending time at the cabin on Holiday Lake and she treasured her family.
Liz will be greatly missed by her sons: Thomas (Resa) Malloy, Mick Malloy, and Pat (Karla) Malloy, all of Rhodes; her daughter-in-law Jolene Malloy, of Rhodes; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister Dorothy Johnston, of Marshalltown, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In death, she rejoined her beloved Leo who died in 2003; her son, Dennis (2003); her parents; brother, Joey Malechek and her sisters: Mary Thursby and Shirley Kunkel.
