Gretchen Louise Lynch, 91, of Gladbrook died Thursday, February 14, at her home in Gladbrook.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 19, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook with Pastor Robert Doner officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Gladbrook with military honors conducted by the Ehrig-McTurk American Legion Post # 127. Visitation will be at the Gladbrook Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.
Gretchen was born June 9, 1921 in Albersdorf, Germany the daughter of Claus and Marie W. Martins Englland. She moved to the United States with her family at the age of four. She received her education in the Gladbrook schools. Gretchen served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
She was married to James L. Lynch on May 22, 1945 and they later separated. Gretchen worked in the Men's department at Younkers for many years. Her interests were spending time with her family, flowers, feeding the birds and just the love of nature.
She was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ and a 70 year member of the Gladbrook American Legion Ehrig-McTurk Post 127.
Surviving is a son, Tim Lynch of Marshalltown, a granddaughter, a great grandson and a sister, Hilde Pappas of Gladbrook.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter in infancy, Charlene.
