Champions were crowned in four grade divisions of the boys' Marshalltown Optimist Basketball Invitational (MOBI) Saturday at the Miller and Lenihan school gyms.
The Marshalltown Bobcat fifth-grade team won its division with a perfect 4-0 record. The Bobcats were coached by Dr. Stephen Van Buren. West Marshall's entry coached by C.J. Tracy finished second in fifth grade.
Both the seventh- and eighth-grade championships went into overtime. The Cedar Rapids Thunder rallied in the last minute of regulation and prevailed 46-43 over the Grinnell MIX to take the eighth-grade title.
In seventh grade the Iowa Intensity out of Grinnell defeated the West Des Moines Thunder 51-45 for the title.
The sixth-grade title was won by the SE Polk Black team with a 3-0 record in round-robin play. The Cedar Rapids Rush finished second in sixth grade with a 2-1 mark.
This was the 28th annual boys' MOBI, which is sponsored by the Marshalltown Noon Optimist Club in partnership with the MHS Bobcat Booster Club.
