Kathryn Ann (Alvey) Kapaun, 80, of Marshalltown, IA died after a brief illness on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. A luncheon will be served in the parish hall following services. A private family interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Main Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes. Kathryn was born May 15, 1932 in Sioux Falls, S.D. and graduated from St. Joseph's Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls in 1949. She was united in marriage to Florenz Kapaun on November 20, 1950. Kathryn is the mother of nine children and grandmother of eighteen. Her focus in all things was her immediate and extended family; encouraging them to be all they could be, taking pride in their accomplishments and comforting them during difficult times.
She is survived by Flo, her husband of 62 years, her children, Michele (Chris) Tsouris of Centennial, Co, Joe (Lola) Kapaun of Hudson, IA, Casey (Carol) Kapaun of Broomfield, CO, Dan (Debbie) Kapaun of Olathe, KS, Paul (Susie) Kapaun of Orchard Park, NY, Jane (John) Niemeyer of Tulsa, OK, Stephen Kapaun of Ames, IA, Katie ( Rick) Swalla of Ames, IA, daughter-in-law Denise Kapaun of West Islip, NY and her eighteen grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a son, Pat, parents Mary and Louis Alvey, sister Mary Miller, brothers Jack, Bill, Bob, Pat and Jimmy Alvey.
