The highest award available in Iowa High School Speech is the Critic's Choice award at All-State contest, which is a first for the East Marshall speech program.
According to the IHSSA website, "Approximately 24,000 students started at the district level from over 347 schools. Now only 138 schools had groups named as Outstanding Performers and less than 1,700 students earned the right to be named as Outstanding Performers."
Out of these outstanding performers, one is chosen as number one in the state for that category each year.

Sarah Chase, coach for East Marshall, was awarded with the plaque at the contest's closing ceremony on Feb. 16. This plaque, along with a certificate, will be displayed at the school to support the high achievement of this group and future success of the speech program.
The Radio Broadcasting banner will also be held at the school for a year and returned next year as a member of the group acts as a banner page for the opening and closing ceremonies at next year's festivities.
This honor was given based on the students successful work, the IHSSA criteria for excellence and the choice of section judge Bill Withers.
