BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Marshalltown High School and Marshalltown Community College graduate Tyler (T.J.) Flanagan has been honored with selection to the preseason all-Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball team.
Flanagan, a senior member of the Texas Southern baseball squad, was voted the all-SWAC preseason second team first baseman in a poll conducted by the conference's coaches and sports information directors.
Flanagan started in 29 games and played in 40 as a junior, batting .265 with nine doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs for the Tigers. Texas Southern was polled as the preseason favorite to win the Western Division of the SWAC.
Flanagan was a two-time honorable mention all-Region XI selection at MCC. As a sophomore he hit .355 with 16 doubles, four homers and 38 RBIS. His .417 career batting average as an MHS Bobcat is second all-time in program history.
Another former MCC Tiger is a contributing member of the Texas Southern baseball squad as well. Jag Gordaya is a senior infielder from Victoria, British Columbia, who hit .326 in 34 games last season.
