Chelsea Anne Kerr, of Laurel, made an initial appearance on a carrying a concealed weapon charge, an interference with official acts charge, an improper brake light charge, a failure to yield to emergency vehicle charge, a speeding charge, a theft-fifth degree charge, an open container charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a no insurance charge. On the first five charges the court appointed the public defender's office to represent her. The theft-fifth degree, open container and possession of drug paraphernalia were continued with the previous charges as companions. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 1. The no insurance charge was dismissed with court costs of $60 after proof was submitted. It is due within 30 days of today's date. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

Sha'ron Reel, 112 College Lane, made an initial appearance on a social hosting violation charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning March 18 until the debt is paid.

Don Bachman, of Reinbeck, made an initial appearance on a speeding charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on March 26 in Magistrate Court. Bachman was released on his own recognizance.

Bonnie Ann Putter, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a violation of probation charge. The probation revocation hearing is set for 11 a.m. on March 4. No bond was allowed in this case. Putter requested the judge set a bond review hearing.

Tisha Raye Bonnett, of Newton, made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge. She pleaded guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on March 26 in Magistrate Court. Bonnett was released on her own recognizance.

Bruno Kossi-Alomenyo Banissan, 405 Sharon Ave., made an initial appearance, through a French interpreter, on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. He will hire his own attorney. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 11. Banissan was released on his personal promise to appear. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today's date.

Travis Paul Sams, of Newton, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension-unpaid fines charge, a no insurance charge and a no valid driver's license charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on March 26 in Magistrate Court. Sams was released on his own recognizance.

Diego Villa, 7 S. 7th Ave., made an initial appearance through counsel, Chad Frese, on a warrant for failure to report for pre-trial supervision sign-up. Due to failure of paper work on that order to reach Villa the court continue bond as posted and reinstated the release through the Department of Correctional Services and ordered that he sign up for pre-trial release within 24 hours, obey the regulations and all laws. A no-contact order previously issued for the protected party is still in effect.

Anthony Chandler, 418 N. 5th St., made an initial appearance on a in a bar under legal age charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today's date.

Jessica Forkner, of Nevada, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 12. Forkner was released on her own recognizance. The court ordered, as a condition of release, that she obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today's date.

Sedrick Nathan Keahna, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a warrant for failure to appear at a sentencing hearing. Marshon Dubbert will continue representing Keahna on this charge. The sentencing hearing is rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 25. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

Ronald Edward Draper, 2102 S. 3rd Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge, a no valid driver's license charge and a registration plate violation charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 12. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of these cases.

Matthew Anthony Leavy, 206 N. 15th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while barred-habitual offender charge, a speeding charge and a operation without registration charge. Leavy will hire his own attorney. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 12. Leavy was released on his own recognizance.

Ray Chavez, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a warrant for failure to appear at a plea and sentencing hearing. The plea and sentencing hearing is rescheduled for 1 p.m. on March 6. The court requested that Chavez bring his substance abuse evaluation with him at that time or sign a release of information form. Chavez was released on his own recognizance.

On Dec. 25, Crystal Marie Lennie, 12 1/2 N. 10th St., was cited for theft-fifth degree from Git 'N Go.

Accidents

On Wednesday, a pickup driven by Gareck Donald Getting, of Grundy Center, was westbound on East Church Street in the outside lane when it attempted to turn left into a parking lot between South Second and South First Avenues and collided with a car driven by Erin Voyles Hatcher, 1702 Country Club Place, which was also traveling west on Church Street in the side lane. No injuries were reported. Getting was cited for turning from improper lane. Damage to the Getting pickup was estimated at $250 while the Hatcher car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

On Wednesday, a car driven by Chad Richard Lytle, 803 E. High St., was exiting a private driveway at 1516 W. State St., when it broad-sided a car that was legally parked on the street across from the drive. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Lytle car was estimated at $100 while the legally parked car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.
