Born Wayne Earl Funke on March 5th, 1947, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Earl and Louise (Smith) Funke. He graduated from the State Center (West Marshall) High School with the class of 1965.
On September 11, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sharla Triplett. They made their home at State Center and on the homestead he lived his entire life on. The couple built their new home on the place in 1975. Also on the same property, he was the owner and operator of Funke Trap Tags and Supplies- a passion he shared with many until his health declined and he closed on January 31, of this year. Wayne also was employed for 40 faithful years at Bruin Manufacturing in Marshalltown until retiring.
Wayne was a member of the National and Iowa Trapper's Associations and Fur Takers of America. He enjoyed the outdoors, his friends and family and going to the casino.
Sharla preceded him in death as did his parents. He was blessed with having Marilyn (Spooner) in his life and the two were united in marriage on October 14, 2006. In his own words, he often say he was blessed with "one damn fine woman."
Left to cherish his memory are Marilyn, his son Todd, sisters Joan Jackson, Karen Reif, three grandchildren- Ashley, Jacob and Jesse and many friends.
