Next history program to focus on Six on Six Girls Basketball

The March 21 History on Third Thursday Program will be on Six on Six Girls Basketball in Marshall County.

The program will be from 6 ro 7:45 p.m. in the Williams Room of the Marshalltown Public Library. It is sponsored by the Historical Society of Marshall County.

The speaker, Don Lamb, has taught and coached girls basketball (and done refereeing) in Central Iowa for many years. He coached 10th grade girls at MHS for 13 years. He's also coached girls at Gladbrook, East Union, Miller Middle School, South Tama and East Marshall.

After Lamb's short presentation on the history of basketball and development of the girls game, there will be a panel discussion with five former area players. Panelists are: Barbara Jontz Gazaway, Van Cleve and Laurel, 1958-60, Cyndy Long, Union-Whitten, 1967-70 and Connie Roy Adair, Judy Riese Teig and Linda Goecke Baker, all State Center in the early 1960s.

On display will be photos of Marshall County girls teams and some uniforms.
