The Marshall County Sheriff's Office retrieved a local man wanted for armed robbery from Arkansas Monday.
U.S Marshals arrested Bernard Brooks, 19, of Marshalltown, Feb. 15 on a warrant for his alleged involvement in stealing $1,000 at gunpoint from a clerk at Check into Cash, 50 E. Lafrentz Drive, in April.
Police made information of the arrest available Thursday pending charges against another Marshalltown man, Russell Gentry Jr., 24. Gentry Jr. is serving a sentence for drug possession and theft charges at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility.
Brooks is being held at the Marshall County Jail.
Brooks was visiting family in Arkansas at the time of his arrest, said Capt. Chris Jones, with the Marshalltown Police Department.
Jones said the robbery is not connected to any other robberies but that he is unsure whether police will file more charges against the men.
Evidence recovered from the crime scene tied the duo to the robbery, Jones said. Police submitted the evidence to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation for analysis.
Police charged both men with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony, going armed with intent and second-degree theft, both Class D felonies.
Brooks also has a charge of serious assault for his alleged involvement in a June incident, according to online court records.
The investigation is ongoing, and Jones said the MPD is always open to new information.
Brooks made his initial appearance Monday. His bond is set at $50,000 cash only. A Class B felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
