Marshalltown High School art teacher Julie Bousum has leaned on a student for help this year, and that student has responded with unwavering energy.

Sophomore Talia Fosness has helped Bousum each school day with several tasks and was an integral part in getting ready for the recent youth art show.

"She helps with me with just about anything I ask her to do," Bousum said.

Marshalltown High School sophomore Talia Fosness, left, has been a big help this school year to art teacher Julie Bousum. The two are pictured with one of the student’s pieces of art.

Fosness, 16, said she doesn't mind helping out her teacher, as some day she would like to teach as well.

"I kind of want to make a difference in kids' lives," Fosness said.

Fosness said she gets her work ethic from her mother, who is a single mom and works hard for her family.

Bousum said aside from the dedicated help, Fosness also is a joy to be around.

"She's a very warm and generous person," Bousum said.
