AMES - Mid-Iowa Community Action, Inc. and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames will host the Ninth Annual Love Responsibly HIV Silent Auction on April 4.
The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship building on 1015 N. Hyland Ave. and will feature entertainment from local musicians and drag performers.
The suggested admission donation is $20. Proceeds from the auction will replenish the Living with HIV Assistance Fund, which covers various emergency expenses such as gasoline vouchers for driving to medical appointments, rent, utilities, and support group expenses for low-income families living with HIV/AIDS in central Iowa.
MICA and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship are still welcoming donations for the event, including hotel and restaurant gift certificates, sport and theatrical event tickets, new general merchandise, and gift baskets. They can be sent through the mail or dropped off at MICA's Story County Family Development Center, 260 SE 16th St. in Ames.
Funds raised at the silent auction are vital to meeting the emergency needs of the men and women served by MICA's Living with HIV program, which helps participants locate medical and prescription coverage, makes referrals to substance abuse and mental health programs, and counsels individuals on the importance of maintaining regular medical care and establishing a strong support network of friends and family.
