A new career with new opportunities might be closer than you think.

Marshalltown Community College is hosting its annual job fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Student Activity Center. The fair is free and open to the public.

More than 50 employers are expected in attendance representing a wide range of fields. Sandy Supianoski, business education coordinator at MCC, said many of the jobs available will be for office work, manufacturing, nursing and staffing agencies.

The annual job fair at Marshalltown Community College will return from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Student Activity Center.

She stressed the importance of making that connection to people in the professional field.

"It's so important to get that face-to-face interaction," Supianoski said.

Aside from the booths set up and the opportunity to meet with employers, there will also be panel discussions. At 10 a.m. a group of professionals will present an employers panel and at 11 a.m. there will be a discussion on the "hot jobs" out there in the market.

WHAT: Annual job fair at MCC

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday

WHERE: Student Activity Center, MCC

Supianoski feels the job market is steadily picking up in recent years.

"I think it's reviving," she said. "I think things must be getting a little bit better because of the range of employers I'm getting."

The fair is for both area residents and MCC students and Supianoski encourages students who may not be ready to graduate to still make plans to attend.

"Even if you are not ready to graduate yet this is the time to start networking," she said.

For the first this year, the college will host essentially a pre-job fair from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the main entrance of MCC (door 1). It is called Get Hire-Ability and will feature mock interviews, resume reviews and information on how to dress appropriately for the job fair.

"This is going to get you ready for the job fair," Supianoski said.
