Water works to begin flushing hydrants Monday

April 3, 2013
Times-Republican

The Marshalltown Water Works plans to flush the hydrants in the entire city starting the week of April 8.

The flushing will begin in the northwest section of the city and proceed to the southeast section of town and should take approximately two weeks. The purpose of the flushing program is to keep the water mains clean and to check all fire hydrants for proper operation.

Residents may notice temporary discoloring of their water and should avoid washing clothes on the days their area is being flushed. If residents notice any discoloration, running cold water for about five minutes should remove the discolored water from the pipes. Residents are thanked for their cooperation and asked to contact the Water Works at 641-753-7913 if they notice any lasting problems.
