FORT DODGE - The Marshalltown Community College baseball team saw its losing streak dip to five games with Thursday's 9-1 loss at the hands of NJCAA Division II No. 6 Iowa Central.

The host Tritons (15-7) ended their own four-game skid in the victory, getting a combined four-hitter from starting pitcher Alex Hayden and three relievers.

The lone run for Marshalltown (9-9) came on Kyle Simpson's solo home run in the second inning, which at the time cut the Tigers' deficit to 2-1. But Iowa Central tacked on two runs in the bottom half and then five more in the seventh to run away with the cross-conference victory.

Hayden struck out five and walked one in six innings, giving up just two hits. Vinny Crivaro, Luke Vandermaten and Nolan Webster each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

MCC starter Richard England (0-2) got the loss, giving up four runs - three earned - in two innings. He allowed three hits, three walks and one hit batsman. Ben Ryder was ticketed for all five Iowa Central runs in the seventh.

Simpson finished 2-for-3 and Ty Russell went 2-for-4 as the duo accounted for all four Tiger hits.

Dalton Parrott and Tyler Peyton had two hits apiece and Dawson Porter drove in three runs to pace the Tritons.

Marshalltown returns to action with ICCAC D-I doubleheaders this weekend at Indian Hills. Saturday's play starts at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
