GREEN MOUNTAIN - When one mixes children and playgrounds, falls tend to happen.
Members of the GMG Elementary School community are hoping when those falls happen the outcome is safer for their students.

"We have a modern school and it would be great to have a modern playground as well," McElaney said.
Currently, the surface is wood chips and the school would like to get a soft rubber surface that absorbs falls better.
"It would be nice to have something with a little more cushion to it because we have kids fall all the time," McElaney said.
McElaney is one of the organizers of a 5K run/walk to raise funds for the new playground surface. The GMG Wolverine Run will be held at 9 a.m. May 4 at Union Grove Lake south of Gladbrook.
"It's a great way to raise funds," McElaney said.
Cost is $25 for those pre-registered and $30 to register to run the day of race. The run will follow the road around the lake. To register visit www.getmeregistered.com.
McElaney is hoping to have more than 50 runners at the event, but realizes it will take more fundraising work in the future to raise the expected $185,000 in funds needed for the safer surface.
"It's a very long term goal," she said.
Checks for donations to the project can be made out to Partners in Education, GMG Elementary School, 1710 Wallace Ave., Green Mountain, IA, 50632.
