Marshalltown police conduct alcohol compliance checks

April 9, 2013
Times-Republican

On April 5, the Marshalltown Police Department conducted alcohol compliance checks at local businesses and retail stores.

The Police Department receives funding through SATUCI (Substance Abuse Treatment Unit of Central Iowa) to do concentrated alcohol enforcement to reduce underage drinking and the purchasing of alcohol. Checks were made at more than 25 locations that sell alcohol on this date.

Employees at two locations sold to an underage person: Casey's General Store, 1201 Iowa Ave. W. and Tacos Y Mariisco Maravilla, 9-11 East State St.

Both subjects that sold to the minor were charged with providing alcohol to person under the legal age, employee, which is $123.49 fine. They were both cited and released on scene.

Those businesses that were compliant will be getting window stickers from SATUCI and the Police Department for not selling to a minor. The Marshalltown Police Department will continue to do these compliance checks and extra patrols throughout the year to combat underage drinking and the sale of alcohol to minors.
