STATE CENTER - Two of the top three golfers came from the NICL West, but teams from the league were bumped to the back of the field at the West Marshall Invitational on a brisk Tuesday night at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.

South Tama junior Paige Van Dyk claimed medalist honors with her 8-over-par round of 80 and Grundy Center sophomore Josie McMartin took third, but their teams were well back in the pack in the 18-hole event.

PCM had four of the top 15 individual scores to claim team champion honors with a 391, followed by Nevada (398) and South Hamilton (418). Spots four through nine were occupied by NICL West squads, led by AGWSR's 442. South Tama shot 445, Grundy Center and East Marshall totaled 462, BCLUW shot 464 and host West Marshall finished in with a 466.

Des Moines Christian (503) was a distant 10th.

Van Dyk had 11 pars, six bogeys and one double bogey during her medalist round, which included a 38 on the par-35 back nine. Teammate Carrie Cibula shot 101 to tie for ninth place.

AGWSR was paced by Megan Heinz, who also shot 101 for ninth. The Cougars were the steadiest of the NICL West teams in attendance. Madie Heinz carded 109, Emily Brekunitch shot 114 and Brooke Harrenstein had a 118.
