DES MOINES - The Drake Relays has announced security enhancements for next week's event to ensure the safety and security of all fans and athletes in attendance.

The Drake Relays, in consultation with local, regional and national law enforcement agencies, will not permit backpacks or large bags measuring greater than 14x10x8 inches inside Drake Stadium.

All smaller purses, bags and personal items are subject to search upon entry to the stadium.

Separate security lines will be established for ticket holders entering with personal smaller bags. Those spectators are encouraged to allow additional time to enter the stadium.

Competing athletes, coaches, officials, medical staff and media with the proper credentials are permitted to bring necessary bags into the facility.

However, those items are also subject to search prior to entry to the facility.

Drake Relays security officials reserve the right to restrict any item from the facility that is deemed a potential security hazard. Other items not permitted inside Drake Stadium include: alcohol, backpacks/large bags, chairbacks/seats greater than 18 inches wide, coolers and thermoses, lawn chairs, outside food or beverages, strollers, tents, tripods for cameras, umbrellas, and weapons of any kind.

Drake Youth Day

The Drake football team will host its sixth annual Youth Day - for kids in elementary school grades - on Friday, April 19, from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. inside Drake Stadium.

The free event was introduced by Drake coach Chris Creighton in his first season to give area children an opportunity to visit with the Bulldogs' players while enjoying football-related fun and games.

The event is one day before the Blue & White Game, which kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m. and is free to the public.

For additional information about Drake Football Youth Day, contact assistant coach Rick Fox at (515) 271-3832 or rick.fox@drake.edu.
