After 52 years of ownership, the Bacon family will be selling Tasty Freeze.

Family spokesperson Gregg Bacon of Clear Lake said they have received several offers from individuals "who have extensive hospitality industry experience" and that proposals are being carefully reviewed.

Bacon said he expected the family to make a decision on the sale soon.

The Marshalltown Tasty Freeze at 1803 S. Center St. is shown recently. The Bacon family of Clear Lake owns the business and is entertaining offers to sell.

The popular summer hang out, which features many varieties of soft-serve ice cream, beverages and sandwiches, has been a Center Street fixture for years but did not open this spring per custom.

The family had been leasing the business to an individual, but Gregg Bacon said he couldn't divulge the person's name or factors that prevented it from opening.

Bacon said he had fond memories of Marshalltown, saying his father purchased the business in 1961 and that his grandfather operated the former Rexall Drug Store on Main Street for many years.
