DES MOINES - The Iowa chapter of The ALS Association today announced that Iowa native Tanner Hockensmith has been named executive director. The ALS Association, Iowa Chapter, serves patients with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, and their families in Marshall County and other counties throughout the state.

Previously, Hockensmith worked in Dallas, Texas, in fundraising and development for nine years.

"Our mission is to serve ALS patients and their families, to advocate on their behalf and to raise money for research to help find a cure," said Becky Patton-Quigley, board president for the Iowa ALS Chapter. "Tanner will be a tremendous asset to our organization as we advance our mission throughout the state."

Prior to joining The ALS Association, Hockensmith served as cultural center director for Life in Deep Ellum in Dallas, managing donor relationships, organizing community events and acting as head of public relations.

Hockensmith holds a bachelor's of arts degree in cross cultural studies from North Central University in Minneapolis.
