Cheryl Mae Thomas, 50 of Albion, died on Friday, April 19, 2013, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. A visitation will take place from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. also at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Cheryl's memory will live on as she was a tissue donor. Memorials may be directed towards the family. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Cheryl and her family.
Cheryl Ferrin was born on July 11, 1962, in Marshalltown to Edward and Aleta Manz Ferrin. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1982. On Dec. 30, 2004, she was united in marriage to Danny Thomas. Their time was short but memorable as Danny passed away on Sept. 22, 2005. Cheryl had previously been employed in the childcare field for many years and also had worked at Haley's Grocery and Glenwood Place. She most recently had been employed with Stephenson's Diner as a cook. Cheryl was a member of the First Friends Church in Marshalltown and also loved to volunteer her time at the House of Compassion cooking meals. In her free time; Cheryl enjoyed gardening, traveling and was an avid pet lover. Above all else, Cheryl enjoyed the time she spent with her family.
Left to cherish her memory is her brother: Dean (Molly) Ferrin, of Marshalltown; sister: Julie (the late Kelly) Schubert, of Jesup, and her fiancee; Rock Riedi, of Albion. She is also survived by her nephews: Mike Ferrin, Ben Schubert (fiancee Kelsey Nading) and Chris (Amanda) Schubert; and niece Kathleen Ferrin (great nephew Gabriel).
Cheryl is preceded in death by her husband; Danny, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
