The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has named the Marshalltown Public Library one of five winners of the National Medal for Museum and Library Service.
Sarah Rosenblum, library director, credited the library's unique programs such as its EMERGE program, which brings sixth graders to the library every month, and its partnership with the Housing Department on its lead abatement program for the win.
No Iowa library has ever won the medal. The Marshalltown Public Library is the smallest library named this year. The library was named one of 16 finalists for the library category in February. The IMLS will award the library $5,000 for its civic accomplishments and will hold a ceremony in Washington, D.C. May 8 presenting the award. Read tomorrow's T-R for more details.
