ALTOONA - The Marshalltown girls' soccer team got off to a slow start Tuesday on the road against Southeast Polk and the Rams took full advantage in a 4-0 win over the Bobcats.

"We started slow and Southeast Polk capitalized on it," MHS coach Allie Osmundson said. "We need to continue to work hard to get better, and we are excited to play Ames at home on Friday."

After a 5-1 start, the Bobcats have dropped two of three and both losses resulted in shutouts. Those are the only two shutouts against MHS (6-3) this season after losing its final 11 games by shutout last year.

The Bobcats will host Ames at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. MHS also plays host to Urbandale at Leonard Cole Field on Monday.

The Bobcat junior varsity team lost to SE Polk 3-1 on Tuesday, while the freshmen squad won 3-1.

The lone goal for the Bobcats in the JV match came from Aye Nu Win. Nu Win, Lexi Gimbel and Raechel Hannam all tallied goals in the freshmen win.

Ames tennis blanks Bobcats, 11-0

AMES - The defending champion Ames girls' tennis team graduated its top three singles players from last year's squad, but the Little Cyclones still overwhelmed Marshalltown in Tuesday's conference dual.

Ames swept its way to an 11-0 victory - all in straight sets - to send the Bobcats (1-6, 0-2) to its fourth straight dual defeat.

The tightest match of the night came from the No. 6 singles contest as Marshalltown junior Megan Riemenschneider fought to within 6-4, 6-1 of Ames' Carla Beghin. None of the Bobcats' other singles players managed more than two games.

Kathleen Ferrin and Ashley Beaty made Marshalltown's best showing in doubles play at the No. 3 spot, falling 6-1, 6-3 to Taylor Thoen and Beghin. The new pairing of Samantha Tocheri and Yelitza Patricio picked up three games in a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 4 doubles.

Ames won all seven junior varsity matches as well.

The Bobcats will make themselves at home for the remainder of the regular season, starting with Thursday's Central Iowa Conference Northern Division finale against Mason City. Marshalltown hosts its four-team invitational on Saturday starting at 10 a.m., and two more home duals are slated for next week.
