Prior to a special luncheon Monday, Marshalltown High School Principal Aiddy Phomvisay had live video streamed throughout the school featuring students achieving a wide array of state and national accomplishments.

Just a few minutes later, it was time to celebrate those accomplishments with a Lunch on the Lawn event at the school.

The event featured pork burgers donated by the Marshall County Pork Producers, games, sports and other activities on the front lawn at MHS. It is an end-of-the-school year celebration for all students.

"Our students are doing some great things and we are really proud of them," Phomvisay said. "We have much to celebrate."

MHS booster members helped grill the burgers and other community members also took part in the event.

"It shows the kids that our community is behind them," Phomvisay said.

Tom Hemesath, of the pork producers, said they brought 1,350 pork burgers to grill Monday.

"It's a great opportunity to promote our product and it's a worthy cause," Hemesath said.

This is the second Lunch on the Lawn in as many years and Phomvisay said he hopes it continues as an annual event.

"I'm extremely proud of this school and our student body," Phomvisay said.
