Knife found at elementary playground

A knife was found at the end of the school day lying on the playground at Woodbury Elementary School Thursday.

Jason Staker, communications director with the Marshalltown Community School District, said there was not any specific individual involved in the incident or any threats made.

The knife was turned over to police. The Marshalltown Police Department reported it was a big kitchen knife.

Adam and Julie Behrends, of Urbandale, are the parents of a daughter, Makayla Ann, born April 30 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, weighing 9 pounds 5 ounces and measuring 21.75 inches long. Makayla joins big sister Brooklyn Grace, 3. Grandparents are Galen and Barb Behrends, of Marshalltown, and Barb Boshart, of Wayland.

Jeremy and Megan Ruopp, of rural Gilman, are the parents of a son, Roland Philip, born on May 5 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, weighing 8 pounds 6 ounces. He joins sister Aubrey Lambi, 6. Grandparents are Philip and Joyce Ruopp, of Marshalltown, and Dennis and Roxy Peterson, of Des Moines. Great-grandmas are Elaine Carter, of Marshalltown, and Maxine Huebner, of Carroll.

Jeff Mayer and Terri Guenther-Mayer, of Tama, are the parents of son, Graham Guenther Mayer, born at 4:18 p.m. April 29 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Grandparents are Doug and Kathy Mayer, of Charles City, and Jerry and Kathryn Guenther, of Charles City.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to five rescue calls to 710 S. Third Ave., 1308 E. Madison St., 408 1/2 N. Third St., 505 Fremont St., and 105 S. Fifth St.

May 3

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to two calls to 1301 E. Madison St. and 308 S. Ninth St., a rescue call to 2510 S. Sixth St. and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 2004 S. Sixth St., 2228 Edgebrook Drive and 2224 Gary Court.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to two fire calls to 2500 S. Center St. and 704 S. Sixth St. and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1002 S. 12th St., 2630 S. Eighth St., 802 S. Center St., 2009 Catalina Place, 303 Nicholas Drive, 211 W. Church St., 711 Noble St., 2200 240th St. and 800 N. Third Ave.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to five fire calls to: 200 S. 12th Ave., 1301 Summit St., 101 NewCastle Road, 110 College Drive and 205 Pine St. and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: 403 Southridge Road, 309 S. 12th Ave., 1607 W. State St., 215 N. Second Ave., 506 Marion St., 1211 W. State St., 506 Marion St., 2907 S. Sixth St. and 1005 S. Seventh Ave.

Monday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire call to 208 N. Second St., and a medical assist with the EMS crew to 1500 Lincoln Towers Circle.

Tuesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire call to 1006 W. Nevada St. and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 413 N. 15th St., 105 W. Boone St., 3012 S. Center St., 1607 W. State St., and 113 Bohen St.

Wednesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire call to 1611 Fremont St., a rescue call on North First Avenue and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 101 NewCastle Road, 102 S. Center St., and 206 Nicholas Drive.

Wednesday

Justin Dale Sutton, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a burglary-third degree charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. May 17. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

Cledith Rebecca Thompson, 608 W. State St., made an initial appearance on a child endangerment without injury charge and a child endangerment with injury charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. May 28. Thompson was released with supervision through the department of correctional services and is to sign a written promise to appear and meet with the adult probation department to sign a pre-trial release within 48 hours.

Thomas Burns, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded not guilty and the court appointed Michael Marquess to represent him on this matter. A pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. June 18 in Magistrate Court. Burns was released on his own recognizance.

Tim Garrett, 406 N. 17th St., made an initial appearance on two failure to appear for a probation revocation hearing charges. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The probation revocation hearings were rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. June 5. Garrett was released on his own recognizance.

Brock Allen Woosley, of Le Grand, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge and a public intoxication-second offense charge. Woosley will hire Bradley Rutherford to represent in these matters before the court. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. May 28. Woosley was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered as a condition of release that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today's date.
