Police chase local man, charge him with two aggravated misdemeanors

A Marshalltown man allegedly fled police Friday after an officer spotted him driving while barred.

Police arrested Matthew Leavy, 28, Marshalltown, after a short car and foot chases spanning from the 1100 block of East Main Street to Leavy's home on the 300 block of North 15th Avenue, said Capt. Chris Jones, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

The Marshalltown Police Department charged Leavy with driving while barred and eluding, both aggravated misdemeanors.

Monday

Jerilee Does, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning June 11 until the debt is paid or in lieu of the fine and surcharge she may do 12 hours of community service plus pay the fine to be completed by Sept. 15.

Jessica Ann Hartwig, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a absence from custody charge and a probation revocation charge. The court appointed the public defender's office to handle her cases. On the absence from custody charge the preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. May 23. The probation revocation hearing is set for 10 a.m. June 10. Hartwig is being held without bond.

Matt Blink, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. May 23. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

Johnnie Ray Cooper, 309 W. Boone St., made an initial appearance on a driving while barred-habitual offender charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. May 31. Cooper was released on his own recognizance.

Rebecca J. Reader, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a probation revocation charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court as its docket permits. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

Jacob Hansen, address unknown, made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge and a possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-meth charge. He will hire John Haney to represent him in these matters before the court. On the possession of a Schedule II controlled substance charge the preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. May 23. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court as its docket permits. A $5,000 cash only bond was set for the possession charge and no bond was allowed on the probation violation charges. Once Hansen is released the court ordered him to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of release.

Friday

Jeremy Miller, 1714 W. Lincoln Way, made an initial appearance on a speeding charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. June 25 in Magistrate Court.

Matthew Wilder, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. June 25 in Magistrate Court.

Traci Malloy, of State Center, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension-non-payment of fines charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days of today's date.

Michael Earhart, 506 E. Anson St., made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The contempt hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. May 24. Earhart was released on his own recognizance. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Nicholas Morgan, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. May 29.

On Saturday, Carolyn Jamie Reed, 2642 250th St., reported hit-and-run damage to the driver side front bumper and headlight assembly on a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer while parked at 10 W. Southridge Road. Estimated value of damage was $1,500.

On Friday, Debra Ann Evanson, 7 N. 10th Ave., reported the theft of a cast iron John Deere pedal tractor from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $200.

On Friday, Sheri Elizabeth Smith, 207 W. Linn St., reported the theft of a Kindle Fire and a LG cell phone from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $244.

On Wednesday, Tyler MacDermotz, 106 College Drive #1102A, reported the theft of a Samsung Galaxy S3 cell phone from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $425.
