County leader put on paid leave

Supervisors take action on B&G director’s status

Todd Kelley, director of Buildings & Grounds with Marshall County, was placed on paid administrative leave for one week by the board of supervisors at a meeting Tuesday.

It followed a closed session meeting with Kelley and the supervisors for a performance review.

Supervisors Chair Dave Thompson said the reason for the decision is a personnel issue and would not comment on it. Kelley's management style and utilization of his staff has come into question by the supervisors at several meetings in the past.

Thompson said the existing buildings and grounds staff will take over the work in Kelley's stead.

"We have an excellent staff and they will fill in just fine," Thompson said.

Kelley did not want to comment on the details of the closed meeting or the decision, just to say the meeting was a "performance evaluation."

He has worked for the county for 13 years and started as buildings and grounds director at the jail before his position was moved to oversee the jail and the courthouse.
