The State Center Development Association is proud to be celebrating State Center's 12th year as an Iowa Main Street Community.
State Center is one of 23 rural communities in Iowa to achieve this designation. The SCDA has made many improvements and has had many accomplishments during this time. The Iowa Main Street program provides free access to design assistance, workshops for business owners and volunteers, grant opportunities, and organizational structure and guidance.
In 2012, the SCDA experienced many successes. The Wood's Hospital building was acquired and renovations were started. The exterior facade in both the front and back have been restored. The building was stabilized by excavating and installing a new foundation and floor under both halves of the building. Volunteer labor helped demolish the interior in preparation for upgrades.
Also, in 2012, the SCDA facilitated the move of the Centre Station Depot, which can now be seen at 301 E. Main St.
2013 projects include the renovation of the Woods Hospital Building interior. The focus will be on windows, insulation, doors and flooring, along with electrical and plumbing upgrades.
In addition, the SCDA will be assisting in community signage, building facade improvements, additional tree planting and continuing the farmers market and special events.
The SCDA has volunteer opportunities for all ages and skill levels. The newest volunteer, Betsy Edler, will be serving as the new market master for this season's farmers markets.
The group is currently asking for monetary donations. All donations are tax deductible. Checks should be made payable to: State Center Development Association, 110 E. Main St., PO Box 156, State Center, Iowa 50247.
