TAMA - Lexi Vaughn scored her team-leading fifth goal just two minutes into the match and the Marshalltown girls' soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory over host South Tama/East Marshall on Friday evening.
Five different players scored for the Bobcats (9-5), who snapped a brief two-game skid with Friday's convincing victory over winless South Tama (0-13).
STC goalkeeper Sam Earley finished with 18 saves and the Trojans suffered their 12th shutout defeat of the season. Marshalltown's Amanda Hughes needed to make just two saves.
"It was a good team win to end the week," said MHS coach Allie Osmundson. "I am happy we scored some goals and hope we can build off of this going into next week."
Morgan Gardalen and Molly Major both had a goal and an assist in the second half, bolstering the Bobcats' 3-0 halftime lead by taking turns finding the back of the net after intermission.
Lindsey Ricken and Ellyn Boland chalked up first-half tallies, while assists came from Brittany Waldron, Emily Rebik and Rachel Whaley.
In Friday's junior varsity contest, Marshalltown's Thalia Chavarria scored the game's only goal in a 1-0 Bobcat victory.
Marshalltown's regular season concludes with two home games next week, as Des Moines Hoover comes calling on Tuesday in a 4:45 p.m. contest. The Bobcats host Class 3A No. 9 Ames on Friday night.
South Tama begins a three-match week with Monday's contest at 2A No. 13 Union Community. The Trojans host Vinton-Shellsburg on Tuesday and close out the regular season Thursday at Independence.
