Larry Mitchell, 74, of Beaman, IA passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Conrad. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, in Conrad. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Larry was born August 24, 1938 to Virgil O. and Ruby E. (Mikkelson) Mitchell in Whitten, IA. He graduated from Union-Whitten High School in 1958. He was united in marriage to Nancy L. Blosch on June 17, 1960 in Steamboat Rock, IA. He was employed as a Fork Truck Driver with Ritchie Industries for 47 years retiring March 31, 2005. He later owned and operated his own lawn care business. He was a member of the Conrad Volunteer Fire Department for 34 years, was a part-time police officer for the Conrad Police Department and spent several years on the Grundy County Sheriff's Reserve. He served on the Library Board in Beaman and was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad where he served as Elder and later Deacon.
Larry will be missed by his wife, Nancy; a son, Mike (Retta) Mitchell of Auburn, IA; his grandchildren, Michelle (David) Maxwell of Ames, IA, Rev. Elissa (Don) Bailey of Bushnell, IL, Ricky (Jennifer Fuller) Jay of Marshalltown, IA, Jessica Mitchell of Sac City, IA, Levi Baggerly of TX, Josh Mitchell of Marathon, IA and Jake Mitchell of Marathon, IA; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, a brother, Arlyn Mitchell of Marshalltown, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Ruby Mitchell; a daughter, Rhonda Kay Mitchell; a sister, Charlene Faye Gibbs and a great-granddaughter, Lilith Kay Baggerly.
