The tenure of Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce President Ken Anderson is winding down, and leaders behind the scenes are in search for his replacement.
Paul Beals, chair-elect of the chamber board, said a search committee has been formed of chamber, Marshall Economic Development Impact Committee and Convention and Visitors Bureau board members. The group is putting together a job description and looking at the structure of the chamber staff. It will then compile a list of people to talk to about the job.
Beals said there are no plans to open the position to receive applications.
"At that level of position it's very common to seek out the people that you want to hire," Beals said.
Beals said they are looking for someone to continue the momentum the chamber has been building the last several years under Anderson's leadership.
"We are really looking for a dynamic leader and somebody with a real focus on economic development," Beals said.
Beals said they have tentative plans to bring in the top four or five candidates for interviews, but those decisions are still being worked out by the search committee.
The goal is to have someone announced or hired in June so he or she can begin by the start of July as Anderson retires.
A public open house to say farewell to Anderson will be held from 2 to 4 p.m on May 31 at the Fisher Community Center auditorium. Anderson has served as president of the chamber for 19 years.
"Ken has done a fantastic job," Beals said.
