John D. Brennecke, 83, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, IA.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown, IA. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, IA. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.

John was born September 10, 1929 in Marshalltown, IA to Joshua Harold and Ruth Agnes Brennecke. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1947 and went on to the Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO graduating in 1951. After college John served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Nicholson in Marshalltown, IA on December 27, 1953. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2011. John worked as an Insurance Agent and for the majority of his career, from 1952 to 1985, was the owner of his own company, John D. Brennecke Insurance. He later worked for Brenton Independent Insurance Services and Koehler/Moeller Insurance. He was a member of the Marshall Masonic Lodge #108 in Marshalltown, IA, the American Legion Post 46 in Marshalltown, IA, was a Past President of the Marshalltown Jr. Chamber, the Marshall County Ducks Unlimited, the Izaak Walton League and the Marshalltown Independent Insurance Agents.

He will be missed by his sons, Michael Brennecke of Marshalltown, IA, Jeff Brennecke of Baxter, IA and Tim (Kelley) Brennecke of Marshalltown, IA; his daughter, Tammy (Dave Overstake) Brennecke of Marshalltown, IA; his sister, Betts Stailey of Denver, Co; his eleven grandchildren and his two great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mary he was preceded in death by his parents.
