The first in a series of dances at the Marshalltown Family Aquatic Center will take place Wednesday.
Marshalltown Parks and Recreation will hold five water-based evenings of fun for children entering grades 6-9.
Chad Weir, recreation superintendent, said the event is basically a pool rental for kids. Parents can drop off their children for a couple hours of fun, under the supervision of lifeguards and volunteer chaperones.

The Marshalltown Family Aquatic Center is shown here Monday afternoon. The center will host the first of five splash dances for children grades 6-9 Wednesday.
The dance will feature a DJ playing music kids that age typically enjoy, Weir said.
"You can swim, you can dance to the music if you so choose," Weir said. "It's just a night for kids that age to come out and have some fun The kids really enjoy it."
Weir said the dances typically see between 150 to 300 kids, depending on weather. Should weather preclude one of the dances being held, Parks and Recreation will not reschedule it.
The dances will be held from 8 to 10 p.m.
Upcoming dances will be held June 26, July 10, July 24 and Aug. 7.
Attendance cost $3. Season passes are not accepted. For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation department at 641-754-5715.
