CDC transition progressing smoothly

The move of the Career Development Center from being operated by the Iowa Valley Community College District to REM Iowa is going well, county community services director Jill Eaton told the Marshall County board of supervisors Tuesday.

"I think the transition is going to be very nice," Eaton said.

The REM Iowa led CDC will open July 22. It provides vocational opportunities for adults with disabilities. Iowa Valley announced earlier this year it planned to end its operation of the center located at 21 S. Second Ave. on June 30.

REM Iowa will lease the exact same facility for the program. Eaton said she is happy that with so much uncertainty earlier this year it has now worked out for the best for the CDC. The parents and family members of clients of the center were a big reason why this transition was achieved, she said.

"It's turned into being a real positive," Eaton said. "...The parents really stepped up to make this happen."

The next regular meeting of the supervisors will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the courthouse.
