Injustice at the Iowa Veterans Home

June 12, 2013
Tom Severson, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

Our son, Brock Severson, who has special needs, has worked at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown for more than 10 years. He first started as a volunteer but eventually earned modest pay after demonstrating that he was very effective at what he did. We recently received notice that Brock will no longer be allowed to work at the veterans home. When we asked why, we were told that it was a matter between management and labor. Brock is loved by everyone and makes a positive impact on the residents at the Iowa Veterans Home. What is happening to him is terribly wrong. It is not just an injustice to Brock, it is an injustice to anyone in a situation like him ... someone who has no voice.
