Members of the Central Iowa Sea Cadets are shown after presenting colors Friday in the Malloy Leisure Resource Center at the Iowa Veterans Home while members of Marshalltown B.P.O Elks # 312 and keynote speaker Daniel Gannon of Ankeny, third from left on stage, look on. The cadets presented the colors before the start of the annual IVH Flag Day program, hosted by the Elks. A patriotic program detailing the history of the American flag from its inception to present day was presented by Elk members. Gannon is a commissioner with the Iowa Commission on Veterans Affairs in Des Moines. He served in Vietnam in the 1st Marine Division, 1969-1970 as a platoon leader and was wounded in combat. Since retiring as a manager from UPS in 2004, Gannon has volunteered more than 3,000 hours for a variety of veterans activities.
