Local man tries to hold woman prisoner

Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department, said Ford attempted to strangle the woman in front of their 21-month-old child at the couple's home on the 1700 block of Edgebrook Drive. Ford took the victim's phone, preventing her from calling police, and he would not let her leave the house.

Reports did not indicate why the officer charged Ford with harassment or why the officer did not charge Ford with child endangerment, but Hanken said he does not anticipate any additional charges.

The victim was uninjured.
